Good morning guys, welcome back to the Mytanfeet channel, I'm Samantha and here we are at Arenal Volcano National Park in the sector of the peninsula. I'm here with our guide Ronald who's going to take us on a tour, we're going to walk around the peninsula and then go on a boat ride on the Lake Arenal.
Hi Samantha how are you doing, good. I'm glad you're here, so today we're going to have this nice activity so we're going to explore this new section of the national park it's called the peninsula so we're going to be doing this for about an hour and a half, it's a hike and then we're going to have a nice boat ride on the Arenal Lake so I'm going to show you the surrounding of the lake, some of the nature that is found there and then we're going to see some of the towns established near the lake. So this hike is going to be short but a lot to see right, like the coati we saw just walking around. Alright we're very excited to explore this new section of the Arenal Volcano National Park so let's go.
The tour started when we got picked up from our hotel in La Fortuna and drove about 30 minutes to the park office of the Arenal Volcano National Park Peninsula sector. The Peninsula sector has one main linear trail that goes through the rainforest and has several viewpoints of the lake and an observation tower. It's a well maintained trail with a mostly concrete path and a little over a kilometer long one way, about .7 miles. This part of the national park offers visitors a unique look of the manmade Lake Arenal which was built back in 1979 and is the biggest lake in Costa Rica today.
Arenal Lake is the main hydro project in Costa Rica since the government started with Reventazon. This one generates around 30% of the hydro and that represents 10% of the total power in Costa Rica.
Near the end of the trail, there is a 12 meters or 39 foot tall observation tower. The tower has fantastic views of Lake Arenal and the Arenal Volcano, and you can see both sides of the peninsula. Although this trail is not very long, you experience a lot in terms of beautiful rainforest, lake and volcano views, nature and wildlife. We saw lots of different birds, coatis, agoutis and peccaries during our walk.
We've been walking about 1 mile on this trail and we have seen a lot of wildlife so far. It's been great, the trail is in very good condition, good to walk on, it's beautiful, lots of rainforest and like I said we have already seen so many animals and different types of flora and fauna in just about a mile.
When we reached the last viewpoint of the trail, it was time for us to go on our boat ride on the lake. The boat ride took us very close to Arenal Volcano and luckily we got really good weather and saw Arenal Volcano mostly clear. This volcano is very impressive to see up close and when it's clear out, wow! The boat ride was a ton of fun, I loved the fresh air in my face, cooling us off from the intense rainforest humidity.
To end the tour, we cruised back to the lake's boat launch where we enjoyed some fresh fruit and cold juice.
We just finished the tour, our walk around the Arenal Volcano National Park peninsula sector and our cruise on Lake Arenal. So I want to say a huge thank you to Ronald for leading us and being our guide today. it was a pleasure Samantha, I hope you enjoyed this adventure today in this time, we saw great stuff today and we invite everybody to come and visit us.
