Alright Randi.... #Highsteaksreview time @peterluger Great neck, NY (Revisited). (Idk wtf happened to their Instagram @)
Peter Luger manages to nail it damn near every time. Their porterhouse is so fundamentally sound that it sets a standard that other steakhouses continue to try to replicate.
They charge ~$115 for a ~36oz porterhouse. That’s why it pains me when I see other steakhouses (not naming names) charge more than that for an objectively worse steak.
I ordered it rare and, as expected, they cooked it perfectly. All the intramuscular fat was rendered, and the muscle itself was still at the perfect temperature. This is very difficult to achieve. The crust they manage to get on it, is even more impressive. Like I said, if I scraped my knife on the top of the steak, it sounded like I was scraping a shovel on a cinder block.
They could have used more salt but in all fairness I say that about basically every steak I eat. However, there was NO PEPPER to be found on the steak. I can’t fathom how steakhouses put all this time and energy into aging their steaks, only to voluntarily season them with pepper.... fucking ridiculous. And I don’t give a shit what Gordon Ramsay says either.
Peter Luger manages to achieve a flavor in their steak that is almost sweet. This has to result from either their lengthy dry aging process, or how they cook it, or likely both. They have this shit is down to a science. No one knows how long they dry age their steaks for, but I can promise you it’s not the bare minimum 28 days that’s sold at *other* steakhouses.
I went 9.3 on the porterhouse. Ridiculously high score.
Bonus lamb chop review... As for the lamb chops. Again I only review porterhouse steaks, but if you tell me you have the best of something I’m gonna try it. The lamb chops are fucking ridiculous. I gave them a 9.1, and the only reason that score wasn’t higher is because I’ve had slightly better lamb chops there before... but only from there.
So 9.3 on the porterhouse, 9.1 on the lamb chops. That’s your review.
Call me a homer, idgaf. Plenty of other steakhouses near me that I could spend my money on it Peter Luger didn’t hit so hard.
Also, save the comments about needing to make better eye contact. I am well aware. My head was on a swivel. It’s being worked on. Looked like I was tryna take the necessary precautions to cross the street for half the video.
