The walk starts from Grand Place in Brussels. Then I go towards Rue Charles Buls, a lively street in the heart of Brussels, where souvenir shops and chocolate stores line the pavement. I am heading towards one of the most famous and beloved symbols of the city: the Manneken Pis statue. This small bronze sculpture depicts a naked little boy urinating into a fountain’s basin. It was designed by Jérôme Duquesnoy the Elder in 1619 and has survived thefts, bombardments and vandalism. The statue is often dressed up in different costumes, reflecting the humor and diversity of Brussels. According to legend, the boy saved the city from a fire by putting it out with his pee, or he urinated on the enemy troops during a battle. The Manneken Pis is a must-see attraction for anyone visiting Brussels, as it represents the spirit and history of this charming city.
