The John Lewis Voting Rights Act has failed in the Senate. It's named after the late civil rights activist and congressman, with Republican lawmakers voting to not even debate.
This is another blow after the Senate blocked the Freedom to Vote Act two weeks ago. The John Lewis Voting Rights and Advancement Act seeks to restore the full protections of the original bipartisan Voting Rights Act of 1965.
