Former Palestinian tourism minister Elias Freij, a pioneer of dialogue with Israel, was laid to rest on Tuesday (31/03) in a ceremony attended by many Palestinian officials, but few members of the public.
Freij, who served as the mayor of Bethlehem for 25 years, died from kidney failure Sunday at the age of 81.
More than 1,000 people, including Palestinian Authority ministers and security officials, joined the funeral cortege from the Freij family home to the Church of the Nativity for a Greek-Orthodox ceremony.
