Today we're going to be using Webwave to build a restaurant website. Now there are a lot of things you need to do when you are building a restaurant website, but the first thing you'll need to do is build your homepage. In this video, we're going to show you how to do that. The homepage and the menu page are by far the highest trafficked pages for restaurants, so make sure you make it abundantly clear how a potential customer can contact you, find your business and view your latest specials and offers.

I did my best to balance the speed we moved through the video without making it too boring. In total, I spent about 2.5 hours on the build + about an hour getting everythign ready. It still needs another hour or so of SEO + some fine-tuning with the menu embed and fixing things I overlooked. The most frustrating part of WebWave is that if you (conveniently) drag elements around, you can accidently mess up the formatting on different devices. Be careful of this!

Speed is by far the biggest issue with webwave. This site scores an F 21% on GTMetrix. On pingdom it is a B - 81 but a 5.24s load time. It scores a 30 on pagespeed insights with the speed index being 7.9s and 9.0s largest contentful paint and 10.4s time to interactive. Worse of it all - it feels very slow to load. They claim they will be fixing that soon...

I built this for a friend who is opening the restaurant (he bought it vs paying me monthly for my WP sites) and it should be fine for his sake - low competition area. However, I also stacked it with 5 codes for the future of my own business and I'm not sure I can build on it right now with those issues. I might try 10webAI before it leaves the store tomorrow. I am trying to find a way to build sites faster + whitelabel. Webwave claims they are fixing that and IMO they absolutely have to resolve it. I think speed is overhyped and not that important (compared to how it is marketed) but you can't have noticeably slow sites as we move forward in this space. Sometimes a site scores a C or D and it is prefectly fine but sites scoring an F and taking a few seconds to load in real life doesn't work for B2C businesses. For SEO - I rank sites that are F all the time - my own sites included.

There is too much competition in the pagebuilder market to ignore this issue though and too many other website platforms are marketing the ability to build fast sites. Sometimes I think it is just marketing and a site scoring a 98 is no better than a 78. All that said, elementor is slow and a lot of the easy builders come with extra code that drags down site speed. I got my start building a few local business sites on mobifirst (a jvzoo product) and that actually builds very fast websites most of the time BUT there are so many better options on the market. I like swipepages a lot but they seem to have bad seo/indexing. I am curious to see how webwave does - they do appear to integrate with search console and have some basic SEO controls but I want to dig in a bit more.
