Standing over 100 feet (35 meters) in height and covered with more than 650 feet (200 meters) of continuous relief sculpture, Trajan’s triumphal column is one of history’s greatest monuments! It was constructed in the 2nd century CE and celebrates Trajan’s victories over the Dacians. It is the only integral part of Trajan’s forum that survives, although the original statue of Trajan at the top of the column was later replaced with a statue of St. Peter!
