STORYLINE
Gunmen killed three Shiite Muslims in an apparent sectarian attack in the south western Pakistani city of Quetta on Friday, local police said.
The group of travellers were on their way to visit holy sites in Iraq and had come to Quetta from the southern city of Karachi, according to police.
The group was waiting for a bus on Friday afternoon when the gunmen appeared on a motorbike and opened fire.
Two men and one woman were killed, while four other people were wounded, said Deputy Inspector General of Police, Ejaz Asif Shiekh.
The injured were being treated in hospital in Quetta.
Quetta has witnessed violence against Shiite Muslims in the past.
Police did not accuse any particular militant group on Friday, but previous attacks have been blamed on Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, a Sunni Muslim extremist group with ties to al-Qaida and the Taliban.
Pakistan is a Sunni-majority country, and most of its Shiite and Sunni residents live in harmony.
However, extremists from both sects occasionally target one another''s leaders.
