The IRS just announced when they will begin accepting individual income tax returns on Friday, February 12, 2021, This delay is due to the Dec 27 tax law changes and the second round of stimulus payments.
Currently, the original deadline is still April 15 and for those who extend, October 15, 2021.
In regards to my tips for a smooth tax season:
1. File electronically with your direct deposit information.
- IRS states that 9/10 taxpayers will receive their refunds within 21 days of when they file electronically with direct deposit if there are no issues with their tax return.
- For those that will claim a qualified Recovery Rebate credit, hopefully, it will arrive within 21 days.
2. Do not submit your return till early February this year
3. Remember that stimulus payments already received are not taxable and will not reduce your eligible tax refunds
