So pretty much everyone knows that this cocktails invention is touted as a marketing tool to introduce Vodka to the American masses - and thereby securing vodka the top slot in sales... Cute story, but we'll never know if it's really true or how much is later embellishment.
A couple of keys to a great Moscow Mule are the crushed ice - you want a mix of small shards, snow, and chunks. This is easily achievable by wrapping cubes in a tea towel and smacking it with a rolling pin; great energy release as well. The second is Ginger Beer; don't use Ginger Ale, it lacks the depth, spice and complexity of Ginger Beer. We've also seen this mixed with a home made ginger syrup & soda... it was pretty fantastic as well.
