For nine years Alzheimer's Society volunteer Alan has been a much appreciated mini-bus driver, taking younger people with dementia, staff and volunteers out each week. He was first drawn to volunteer for the Society after his brother in law had been a member of the group, and subsequently he offered to take the local authority mini-bus test. Outings to parks, the seaside and local places of interest make such a difference to younger people with dementia who are often physically fit and able to enjoy the exercise and experience of meeting people socially. Without the time he has given, and continues to give, and his impressive driving skills, the group would be unable to visit such a variety of different venues each week.
Do you have some time to spare? Volunteering is flexible, ranging from a few hours a year to several hours a week. It's your choice. Volunteers help us deliver local services, in our areas, in the regional and country offices, as well as at our central office in London.
