Of course, apple snails like to eat apples. These are "organic" Fuji apples rejected by humans, but readily embraced and devoured by snails. The "apple snails" are Pomacea insularum, AKA Pomacea maculata, a South American species recently introduced all over the Gulf states of the USA. Are they in Mexico too? They are huge in New Orleans and Houston. In Albany, Georgia (latitude 31.6) the water might get a little too cold for a little too long in the winter, as the population seems to fluctuate a lot from year to year.
