South Africa is deeply concerned about the military actions by Israel against the people of Gaza, which it has described as genocide. This tragedy led South Africa to approach the International Court of Justice to stop the killing of innocent women and children in Gaza. We believe the world cannot stand idly by and watch this slaughter continue. South Africa remains steadfast in supporting efforts for the establishment of a viable Palestinian state coexisting peacefully with Israel within internationally recognized 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. This aligns with international law and resolutions. We call on the international community and the UN Security Council to address this escalating conflict. Meanwhile, on the African continent, South Sudan faces its second year of devastating conflict. Additionally, protracted crises in the Sahel and Great Lakes regions persist. Lasting solutions must be found for all these conflicts.
