신규확진 1천324명, 사흘연속 1천300명대...내일부터 수도권 4단계
South Korea continues to see more than 13-hundred coronavirus cases a day.
And from tomorrow, stricter distancing rules will take effect in the greater Seoul area... limiting gatherings to no more than two people after 6 PM.
There are also stricter rules on gyms and religious services.
Our Kim Dami has the details.
South Korea on Sunday had another four-digit number of COVID-19 cases,... new infections coming in at one-thousand three-hundred 24.
That's slightly fewer than Saturday, but that's because fewer tests are done on weekends.
There have been more than 13-hundred cases each of the past three days.
To tame the fourth wave of the pandemic, starting Monday, the greater Seoul region will be under the highest level of social distancing, level four.
"The basic spirit of the new measures is autonomy and responsibility. I ask the heads of local governments to take responsibility and to take preemptive measures so that the spread can be stopped soon with a quick response."
The new rules include a ban on gatherings of more than two people after 6 PM.
For instance, if a group of four people meet, two will have to leave at six.
There are no exceptions for people who have been vaccinated or those traveling in from outside of Seoul.
The 6 PM limit will also apply to groups of immediate family members if they don't live together, but up to 49 relatives can attend weddings and funerals.
For sports, indoor facilities like gyms can operate if they follow virus prevention measures.
Up to 15 people will be allowed for futsal and 27 for baseball.
Also at gyms, to minimize the risk of infection from sweating during intense workouts, group exercises like dancing and indoor cycling can play music at a tempo no faster than 120 beats per minute.
And treadmills can run no faster than six kilometers an hour.
Activities for senior citizens... at recreational halls and social welfare centers will not be banned since those gatherings are not considered private meetings.
All religous services must go online, and pop-up performances at stadiums and parks will be banned.
In the meantime, the nation's vaccination program is gaining speed.
Another 386-thousand doses of the Moderna vaccine arrived in the country on Sunday, which will be used to innoculate those aged between 55 and 59 starting on the 26th.
