A bad or incorrect bite is referred to as a malocclusion, and when patients suffer from an overbite (a situation in which the upper jaw and teeth overlap the lower jaw and teeth), it is called a Class II Malocclusion. The Herbst Appliance is a common treatment for class II malocclusions, and it works by adjusting the position of the jaw. The Herbst Appliance attaches to the back molars and connects to a metal piece that links the jaws, helping the patient to close their mouth into the new alignment and correcting the bite.

Receiving her undergraduate degree at the University of Toledo, Dr. Ludwig earned her Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) from Ohio State University. She went on to complete her Master of Science Degree in Orthodontics from the University of Detroit-Mercy. Dr. Ludwig is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Toledo Medical Center and regularly attends continuing education to stay on top of the latest advancements in orthodontics.
