New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs and chief medical officer of health Dr. Jennifer Russell both said on Tuesday that they will be looking for a steady drop in COVID-19 cases over the next two weeks in order to determine if the province is past the peak of the pandemic. Higgs said this time period will be "critical" in determining whether additional testing is needed or whether some protective measures could be scaled back.
Russell said that the province had no new confirmed cases or deaths from COVID-19. She said the recent numbers show they are "moving in the right direction but have not yet reached our destination." Russell urged people to continue practicing physical distancing, staying at home as much as possible and washing their hands often.
She also said they are welcoming donations of personal protective equipment (PPE) for frontline workers. She said information on how to donate is available on the government's coronavirus website, which will direct them to a form for submitting details regarding the type and condition of items to determine if the items are safe for donation.
The province reported no new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province Tuesday, bringing the total 116, and no deaths.
