These pictures capture the dramatic moment RAF pilots set off on their bombing mission to take out a Syrian regime chemical weapons plant in the early hours yesterday. Four GR4 Tornado warplanes (centre), bristling with devastating Storm Shadow missiles, left their base at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus at 3am local time to carry out the raid near Homs. Firing up the thrusters, the jets (bottom left, centre and right) skirted the Syrian coastline 100 miles away before firing their Storm Shadow missiles at the target. They returned safely at 4.15am.
