A gas leak from an unused LPG cylinder caused a major explosion in Hubballi’s Unkal area early Monday, injuring nine Ayyappa Swami devotees in Acchavana Colony, Sai Nagar. The blast, triggered by a burning lamp, occurred around 1:30 am.
The victims suffered varying degrees of burns and inhalation injuries. Among them, Shankar, Prakash, Sanjay, and Praveen sustained the most critical injuries, with burns covering 85-99% of their bodies. Others, including Tejas and Manjunath, suffered significant burns, while Vinayak, a 12-year-old boy, had less severe injuries at 20-25% burns.
All injured individuals are being treated in the Burns Unit at KIMS Hospital, where their conditions remain critical but under medical care.
