One-hundred mulgaras — rare marsupials related to the Tasmanian Devil — have been translocated from the Northern WA Goldfields to Dirk Hartog Island, in Shark Bay as part of a large ecological restoration project called Return to 1616.
Martu rangers and scientists who jointly manage the new Matuwa Kurrara Kurrara NP, worked together, learning from each other, to complete the translocation. Combining western science with indigenous knowledge proves to be good for people, and for country.
