Part three: " Flyover Me"
Soloists: James Knight (alto) Eryl Roberts and Rob Turner (drums)
Surroundings was commissioned by Manchester Jazz Festival 2010 with funds from ACE, Foyle Foundation, Granada Foundation and PRS for Music Foundation. The suite for full jazz orchestra was composed to be "antiphonal" - musicians playing from different locations around the audience to create a "surround-sound" effect. Each movement has a different physical configuration and each paints a soundscape depicting a specific place or environment. This premier performance was in St Ann's Church in Manchester. Unfortunately it was only possible to erect a single static camera at the back of the church. Best listened to in headphones.
