Serbia News 2023: What's up with Rio Tinto and Serbia's fearless fight against its lithium mine proposal for the Jadar Valley? Is Rio Tinto playing games to mine Jadarite, a type of Lithium discovered and unique to Serbia; ideal for batteries as we transition from dirty fossil fuels to clean energy sources. At a time when the world faces a climate emergency and ecological collapse, is it worth the risk to the environment and people's health to allow the mine to proceed? In this episode I look at the dilemma faced by the Serbian government. This amazing discovery could improve the country's economy and make then a green leader and influential player on the world stage. But is Serbia’s lithium treasure a blessing or a curse? A chance for growth or a risk to nature? Or is it a source of income, or a cause for conflict?  

I also look at the company behind the Jadar Valley Lithium mine proposal, Angelo-Australian mining Gian Rio Tinto and their destructive past. As well as why the Serbian public are taking to streets to ensure the government doesn't allow the deal to commence.

And how did NATO's action on Serbia in 1999 leave environmental and health issues for generations to come?
