A 35-nation meeting of the UN Atomic watchdog agency demanded that Iran suspend all aspects of a key process that can be used to make nuclear weapons, and set an indeterminate autumn deadline for Tehran to heed its conditions. A resolution approved unanimously by the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) board of governors stated that Iran freeze all uranium enrichment and related programmes. IAEA's Director General Mohamed ElBaradei said the resolution is a testament to multi-lateral diplomacy and sends a very strong and clear message to Iran after months of negotiations. The resolution expressed alarm at Iranian plans to convert more than 40 tonnes of raw uranium into uranium hexafluoride - the gas that when spun in centrifuges turns into enriched uranium. The resolution also "strongly urges" Iran to meet all demands by the IAEA in its investigation of the country's nearly two decades of clandestine nuclear activity.
