Elephants are an asset of Sri Lanka that contribute to the forest and savannah ecosystem, tourism,
culture, and much more. Since there are already many Sri Lankan elephants lost and are on the list of
endangered species, Sri Lanka cannot afford to lose more. Therefore, the wildlife department of Sri
Lanka has set up a team to rescue the elephant whenever they are in any difficulty. This wildlife team is
a group of professionals who tackle every situation in a more practical and professional way, thereby
saving a lot of elephants.
Whenever the wildlife team gets information about any elephant suffering in the woods or any other
vicinity, they arrive there as soon as possible and do every possible effort to make it overcome the
situation. Be it giving medical aid, shifting an elephant from one place to another, or saving one from
trouble, the wildlife team gets it all done.
Here, as you can see, an elephant is stuck with its injured foot. Fortunately, the wildlife team is here to
help treat and heal the wound. The most important thing before approaching an animal – especially
such a giant animal like an elephant, is to follow the pre-requisites. And the foremost pre-requisite is to
restrain or immobilize the animal through anesthetic. By this, we can ensure the safety of the persons
approaching the animals. Because be it a fierce lion or a calm elephant, you do not know when it could
harm you.
The team injected the anesthetic into the elephant through a specialized dart gun and then approached
it to treat its wound. The most appropriate medical treatment is given to the animal in the most
appropriate ways so that it could heal as soon as possible.
Moreover, as soon as the team is done with the treatment, a reverse anesthetic is injected into the
elephant through a vein in the ear. This drug reverses the effect of the anesthetic and makes the
elephant mobile again. This way, a giant animal is treated without harming any of the humans trying to
help it.
