That the character of Gus Fring was originally supposed to be a minor role? In Breaking Bad, Gus Fring is perhaps Walter White’s most terrifying nemesis. However, actor Giancarlo Esposito has revealed that it was never creator Vince Gilligan’s intention to give the character that much screen time. In fact, Esposito only signed on for a guest spot in the show. Much like with the fate of Jesse Pinkman, who was played by Aaron Paul, Gus Fring’s stint on the show was extended after Esposito persuaded Vince Gilligan to give the character more time. Gilligan was so impressed by Esposito’s performance that he gladly wrote a bigger role for Fring. Esposito has said of the decision, “Vince told me that I changed the game and raised the bar for the show.” Few fans would argue with that.
