Ever wondered how Mother Russia prepares her faithful children to face life? Wonder no more - today I'm going to talk about Russian schools and Russian school system overall. We'll take American schools for comparison because we all know that everything that is American is obviously the best in the world (according to them). We'll see to what extent do the customs of the Soviet Union affect the lives of schoolchildren 30 years after its collapse, how kids get to schools, what they do there and how enjoyable this whole experience can be.
The most important thing to know about Russian schools is the fact that Russia’s education system is coordinated by the government, and state schools are free for everyone to attend. Government pays for every single student but it also dictates how they will be taught. School programs in Russia are really universal and schools themselves rarely have a say in their development. School education in Russia is divided into three stages: primary, basic general, and secondary. Primary education begins at the age of six or seven and lasts four years. This is followed by five years of basic general education and two to three years of secondary education. Students can choose to complete their secondary education in a regular school or enroll in a vocational college for that period. At the end of secondary education, all students must pass the Unified State Examination (EGE). EGE is basically the pinnacle of this whole point - it will decide if you are a worthy comrade or a failure. Well, not really, but some people really believe it will. There also a lot of small differences from other schools around the world. For example, Russia lacks school buses but has long breaks between each lesson. There's not a lot of flexibility in the schedule, but you'll have a whole Day of Knowledge on September the First. I'm pretty sure I didn't manage to cover all the traditions and customs of Russians schools, but I tried, I really did! It was too long ago, anyways.

Hey there. Somehow you found my video and decided to watch it. So let me introduce myself. I'm Sergei and I'm from Russia. My channel is about my native country. I want to tell English-speaking viewers about the real Russia, about its past and present. Unfortunately, you can find a lot of propaganda about Russia on the Internet, both from the Russian media and from the Western ones. I want to tell you about Russia, as it really is, the country in which I was born, grew up, and lived all my life.
