"Here's a simple survey trick that you might find useful...
Stretch out your arm, and raise your thumb towards the target area.
Align your right eye's line of sight and your thumb to the left side of the target, and your left eye to the right side of the target, and multiply the distance between the two sides by the right multiplier...
You can use this trick to estimate the height of a mountain and whether it's climbable, or the width of a river and whether you can swim across."
