Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that involves reshaping or restructuring the nose for functional or cosmetic purposes. It is also commonly referred to as a "nose job."
There are several reasons why someone might choose to undergo rhinoplasty. Some people may want to improve the appearance of their nose due to aesthetic concerns, such as a crooked or disproportionate shape, a bump on the bridge of the nose, or a drooping or bulbous tip. Others may choose to have rhinoplasty for functional reasons, such as correcting breathing difficulties caused by a deviated septum or other nasal obstruction.
The procedure itself involves making incisions inside the nostrils or across the base of the nose, and then sculpting the bone and cartilage to achieve the desired shape and structure. Depending on the extent of the procedure, patients may be placed under local or general anesthesia and can usually return home the same day.
Recovery time varies depending on the extent of the surgery, but most patients can return to work or school within one to two weeks. It may take a month for the swelling to fully subside and for the final results of the procedure to become apparent. As with any surgical procedure, there are risks involved, such as infection, bleeding, or adverse reactions to anesthesia. I give high importance to discuss the risks and benefits of the procedure with my patients before deciding for surgery.
