Democrats are projected to win Nevada’s seat in the Senate as of Saturday, November 12, which would give them the 50th seat and the control in the US Senate, while campaigning had kicked off for a Dec. 6 runoff in Georgia.
Catherine Cortez Masto, incumbent Nevada Senator running for re-election, has already expressed her ‘confidence’, although no official announcement has been made yet.
US President Joe Biden sent congratulations to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, while attending East Asia Summit in Cambodia.
The Senate currently is split 50-50 between Democrats and Republicans, and now that Democrats keep Nevada, they’d keep control of the Senate even if Republicans take Georgia, thanks to Vice-President Harris’ tie-breaker vote as Speaker of the Senate.
The newly-elected Senate will be sworn in on Jan. 3.
