COMESA offers manifold business opportunities to international investors as explained by Mr Thierry Mutombo Kalonji, Director of Investment Promotion at COMESA in an exclusive interview to the MBC for the purpose of this documentary. At the same time, whilst Mauritius is currently chairing the COMESA Regional Investment Agency, the upper middle income island is positioning itself as the investment gateway to the region. The report showcases the efforts within COMESA to boost the level of regional investment with the support of Mauritius, a member state which is ranked 1st in Africa and 20th worldwide in the World Bank’s Ease Doing Business Index. The documentary also contains statements from the Mauritian Ministers of Foreign Affairs & Regional Integration and of Financial Services as well as the CEO of the Mauritius Economic Development Board and the Stock Exchange of Mauritius. A success story of the largest Mauritian sugar producer, Alteo, investing massively in Kenya is also highlighted in the report to show the transfer of expertise and intra-investment in COMESA which are vital for regional integration.
