Alright guys so if you are watching this video, you probably know what dividends are and what passive income is, but for the few that don’t I’ll run through it real quick. Dividends are most commonly small cash payments made to the owners by the company because they are doing so well. If you want to learn more about dividends we will link our video explaining what dividends are up here. What is passive income? I like to describe it as is income you receive that isn’t directly tied to the amount of hours you worked or either you put in a lot of work at one point and now you are continuously getting paid for it instead of just getting paid once.

So now how do you get to the point of earning $8,700 per year without doing anything? Step #1 you need to have $100,000 invested into Exxon mobil stock. Step #2 you sit back and receive dividend payments each quarter for $2,175 or $8,700 a year. It really is that easy, the hardest part by far is saving up the $100,000 that you need invested.

So you may be asking, why Exxon mobil? That is a great question, for 37 years Exxon Mobil has continued to pay dividends each year and they have continued to increase them each year as well. So hopefully next year $8,700 will continue to grow and grow and grow. There is no guarantee that they have to pay dividends and they don’t have to increase them, so there still is a good amount of risk involved and you shouldn’t rely on this income for essential expenses.
