first encountered SCORE as a volunteer host for Spanish-language webinars.
“So I said, Well, why don’t I look for one of these mentors? … So that's when I started working with a mentor from SCORE,” she said.
One of Valenzuela’s mentors helped her understand the importance of developing a business development strategy. He advised her to dedicate 75% of her day to sales activity. That activity translates into as many as 10 discovery calls and four meetings a week.
“Sometimes I jump from discovery to call, and two proposals per week. So with those numbers, I understood that I needed to…sell,” she said.
