This is a story of a 25-year-old, Arun Kumar, a resident of Chennai. He was a daily wage labourer. Kumar was taking up any job that came his way, as he needed some money to celebrate his daughter’s first birthday. He undertook a manual scavenging job for the first time and it led to a tragedy that ended his life. NewsClick spoke with Kumar’s family and neighbours to understand what forced him to take up the job.
