Video from the Kennedy Space Center watching the launch of Mission STS-131. Space Shuttle Discovery Launched at 6:21 am to intercept the ISS. It was an impressive sight. It was like watching the sun rise at 1000 miles per hour. I was completely surprised and amazed with the sheer amount of light when Discovery took off. It literally lit up the entire sky. I still smile just thinking of it and can hear in my mind that distinctive crackle of the engines soaring. One other aspect not as visible here is that the Shuttle at higher altitudes appeared to make a corona similar to a comet. It was remarkable. I suppose it was from the shuttle exciting the atoms in the upper atmosphere as it passed through. Truly impressive. It was a dream of mine to watch the shuttle launch and it did not disappoint and continues to inspire.
