Unlike a lot of guitars, the Les Paul has four control knobs: two volume and two tone, giving you complete control over both pickups instead of using a master tone or master volume to control multiple pickups.
What are the benefits of having four knobs on a guitar? Versatility!
First, you can set one pickup for your clean sound and the other for your dirty sound, if you want to. Then you're just a flick away from each one instead of stomping on a pedal.
Second, there is so much variety on a Les Paul and so many players aren't aware, because they spend all their time changing the settings on their amp and pedals. I was one of these players - I'd set everything on the guitar to 10 and then adjust the amp.
On your crunch channel, a Les Paul can give you a Tele twang, sparkling cleans, the warmth a Les Paul is famous for, and hard rock gain all without touching the amp or a pedal.
