Last November 17th, hospital leaders, employees, and patients came together to celebrate World Prematurity Day, a global remembrance to raise awareness of the challenges of preterm birth, for both the baby and the mother.
Dr. Mary Ann Cyril N. Mesalucha, Head of BMC's Neonatal Center, says, "...We want to advocate for a safe infant-and-mother developmental care, especially now, in the time of a global pandemic. So we want to ensure their safety. That's why we are celebrating this World Prematurity Day."
Dr. Mesalucha also urges mothers who delivered prematurely to make sure their babies are breastfed. BMC has several programs to ensure this:
➡️ Kangaroo Mother Care: A program for preterm infants, where the mother acts like an incubator and continuous breastfeeding is implemented;
➡️ Human Milk Bank: If the mother cannot breastfeed their baby with their own milk, we have pasteurized donor milk that can be given to premature babies.
This marks the first time that BMC joins in on the celebration of World Prematurity Day.
