Sky News Digital Editor Jack Houghton says the ABC is being “tugged in two directions” amid a “high-profile scandal” involving the resignation of federal political reporter Nour Haydar.
She told the Sydney Morning Herald her decision to leave the ABC related to the scrutiny its coverage had received since the October 7 attacks.
“And is it any surprise that Haydar will instead take up a job with The Guardian, which must align with her values a bit better,” Mr Houghton said.
“The ABC is being tugged in two directions – there are progressive Jewish journalists who are infuriated with pro-Hamas activism, which had been bleeding into news reports.
“And that faction is at odds with the real radical left elements who signed an open letter saying the October 7 attacks had historical context.”
