**Alcohol-Induced Psychosis: Understanding the Impact**
Alcohol-induced psychosis is a severe mental disorder triggered by excessive alcohol consumption, characterized by hallucinations, delusions, and paranoia. This condition typically arises after long-term alcohol abuse or during withdrawal. The brain becomes overwhelmed by the neurochemical imbalance caused by alcohol, leading to psychotic symptoms that resemble schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.
Alcohol-induced psychosis can manifest in two main forms: *delirium tremens* (DTs) and *chronic hallucinosis*. DTs occur during alcohol withdrawal and involve confusion, agitation, and vivid hallucinations, while chronic hallucinosis results from prolonged heavy drinking, leading to auditory hallucinations and delusional thinking.
Prompt treatment is essential, usually involving detox, antipsychotic medications, and therapy. Ignoring these symptoms can lead to lasting mental health issues, making early intervention critical for recovery and long-term sobriety.
