Dr. Manzoor Hussain Malik, Consultant Ophthalmologist, Al – Shifa Eye Hospital, Laser & Glaucoma Centre, Bahawal Pur, Pakistan, describes that in a normal healthy person having no eye and body disease may save problems due to errors of Refraction. Normally refraction of eye depend upon Corneal and Lens curvature. Refration index of Ocular media and Ancid length of eye ball. Depending upon these factors there is following types of Refractive errors.
1. Hypermetropia or Farsightedness in which eyeball is small or corneal curvature is less and light rays focus behind the retina. We may plus power glasses to coverage light rays on the retina.
2. Myopia or shortsightedness in which eye ball is long or corneal curvature is more and light rays focus in front of Retina. We may use minus glasses or contact lens or laser correction to be clear vision.
3. Astigmation in which any of refracting surfaces are irregular in shape and curve, so light rays from part of surface fall infront and rays for other part – Axis fall behind retina. So we need cylindried glasses, or toric cent act lens or laser correction neutralize this irregularity to get clear vision.
4. Preslyopia. This type is not true refractive but due to advanced age, the lens prot barden and loose elasticity and muscle of accommodation become weak. So at the age of 40 , may require plus glass for near work, which increase slowly with age.
There are all refractive problem which are natural and physiological and depend upon size of the eye ball and age and one may be need glasses or contact lenses for their correction. But there are a few factors example heredity, working habits and physical fitness of body. You may overcome minor refractive errors with your physical fitness, exercise and balanced diet containing proteins and fruits.
