Filmed this short clip on the pier at Naval Station Mayport, Florida in December 1991. Myself and a work party from our helicopter squadron, HS-9 Sea Griffins, had just offloaded our squadron gear from the Aircraft Carrier USS Saratoga (CV-60) after a six week "Work-up" Cruise, in preparation for our upcoming 6-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea, the following year. I made this video mostly to show my family when I would go home for leave. From the pier at Mayport, we would take our squadron gear back "home" to NAS Jacksonville (JAX), Florida.
This day, I was exhausted from lugging tons of equipment down the boarding "ladder" from the hangar deck, I was filthy, as can be seen from my work dungarees, and just not in a very good mood, and unfortunately, that is reflected in this video. Truth is, I wish I had been able to film more of my deployments and returns aboard ships during my Navy career.
Please excuse me if you have a hard time hearing what I am saying, it was pretty noisy, and because I was in a mood, I was mumbling a bit...and I was only 21 years old and feeling sorry for myself at that moment. I did do some audio editing to increase the volume of my voice and filter out some of the background noise. Either way, I hope you enjoy this short video.
