City Council met along with 200 other people to discuss Proposition 414, also known as the Flagstaff minimum wage increase. Gathered for hours the council listened to 72 members of the public speak about amending this proposition.
NAZ Today reporter Sunday Miller discusses that a special election in May was voted against. Meg Roederer, with the city of Flagstaff, informs that Proposition 414 was voted with five against having the special election in May, and two in favor. Miller also tells that there is an amendment being drafted that would ease the increase of the local minimum wage. If that happens it would hopefully occur before July 1st.
If that works out, this amendment would delay the two dollar increase for minimum wage beginning in July. For Flagstaff, Proposition 414 would raise the wage to $15 an hour. A local business owner, Ash Patel, believes that the council should put this back into the hands of the voters. Kelly Poe Wilson, a local resident doesn't want an election because she knows that herself and fellow taxpayers will have to pay for it.
Overall, the amendment needs a 6 to 1 upper majority council vote for it to pass.
