Here is my video hiking Mam Tor and The Great Ridge walk from Castleton in the Peak District National Park.
The 8.5 mile route starts from the main car park in Castleton and heads west towards Winnats Pass. Before you go to far head right to Treak Cliff Cavern and then to Blue John Cavern where the rare gem stones are mined.
At this point you can join the main Mam Tor route to the summit. Mam Tor can be extremely busy with tourists as it's a relatively easy-to-moderate hiking trail. The summit is 517 metres high.
From Mam Tor start your descent to the east to pick up The Great Ridge. This fantastic ridge walk gives you stunning views of Edale Valley and Hope Valley. As you hike across you will pass Hollins Cross at 426 metres. From there you continue to Back Tor. This is a stunning little mountain at 391 metres high with a steeper ascent.
From Back Tor it's down then up to Lose Hill at 476 metres. After Lose Hill you work your wat down to the village of Hope. There's plenty of pubs and shops at Hope.
From Hope head south and then west back towards Castleton town.
During my hike I was wearing:
La Sportiva Hiking Boots
Fjallraven Shorts
Revolution Race T-Shirt
Artilect Studios Fleece
Rab Rucksack
OMM Chest Rig
The route was 8.5 miles long with 1800ft ascent and took us just over 3 hours walking time.
