Greece facing more fires in Evros | DT Next

Wildfires burned through forests in northeastern Greece on Sunday (August 20) as the country faces renewed extreme summer weather.

In the town of Loutros, north east of Alexandroupolis, wildfires were fanned by strong winds and several homes were engulfed in fire, according to one resident who recorded footage of the blaze.

Summer wildfires in Greece are common but have been made worse in recent years by unusually hot, dry and windy conditions which scientists have linked to climate change.
