Magnetic Press delivering yet another quality release in their set of The Monkey King books!
As a fan of the story, having engaged with it in all sorts of forms at this point- from the old TV show Monkey Magic, various novel version, seeing traditional Peking opera performances, comics books, to even playing the old Koei game on the Playstation One, it's always cool to see a new take on familiar faces.
I feel the author does a good job of bringing Moneky's story to the forefront, and the bulk of the first book deals with his misadventures- as it rightfully should. I've always felt those are some of the best parts of the story!
There's some fun takes on familiar baddies and allies as well. It's funny how I haven't read some of these in years, and as I was reading I was already thinking of how things resolve in certain situations.
Some parts meander on a bit too long, but I can say the same thing about almost every version.

If you've never partaken of the Journey to the West, this is a fun way to try it!

And mark my words- come Black Friday you can find that board game for under 20 dollars. Shipping might be an issue, but just throwing it out there for those who are interested...
