In this comprehensive guide, we'll walk you through every aspect of a Personally Procured Move (PPM) for military personnel. From start to finish, we've got you covered.
PPM's are very simple. Whether you do a full PPM or a partial "DITY".
First step is to create a move request for your PPM in DPS before leaving. This paperwork is only for the weight you are moving, nothing else. Once you have your paperwork printed out, it is just a matter of weighing your vehicle empty and full on a certified scale anywhere between points "A" and "B". Make sure to include the trailer when getting weighed.
If you hire PODS or your own moving company, talk to your local TMO office first for the pro's and con's versus requesting a government HHG move.
If you rent a vehicle or trailer to move your household goods, make sure to get a copy of the rental contract showing a $0 balance before turning in your package at destination. Keep any receipts for;
- gas (only for a rental vehicle)
- packing materials
- weight tickets
PCS may be treated different than a retirement or separation move, so ask your TMO office about where to turn in your paperwork and your time limit to turn your package in.
