Have a listen to Matanzas Riverkeeper Jen Lomberk discuss North Atlantic Right Whales and how we can help protect this critically endangered species found off our coastlines. Thanks Beach 105.5FM!
👉 Here's how you can be a guardian of the sea during right whale calving season:
1️⃣ Go slow: Give yourself time to react if a right whale appears.
2️⃣ Post a lookout: Keep an eye out for black objects, unusual whitewater, and splashes.
3️⃣ Avoid boating in the dark or rough seas: Visibility matters!
4️⃣ Use WhaleMap.org or the Whale Alert app: Stay informed about right whale presence in your area.
5️⃣ Check for signage: Look for reminders at your local boat ramp or marina.
6️⃣ Keep your distance: Stay at least 500 yards away from right whales (it's the law).
7️⃣ Report sightings: Immediately report to the U.S. Coast Guard on marine VHF Ch. 16 or call 1-877-WHALE-HELP.
