Puerto Rico consists of the main island of Puerto Rico and various smaller islands. The most prominent of these smaller islands lies about 8 miles east of the mainland of Puerto Rico, measuring about 20 miles long and 4.5 miles wide. The story of Vieques is much more than the Navy's abuse of it. This small island's history is steeped in legend and it's intertwined with the development of Puerto Rico and its people.
