You're likely to be told to start using crutches or a walker for the first 2-4 weeks after surgery. Then wean off the crutches and return to normal activity in 6-8 weeks. This is usually too soon! You might need stretch out walking with crutches to 2 to 6+ months!

Restrict walking to only what is necessary for daily living. Only walk for exercise when you feel comfortable and aren't swelling or hurting more from walking.
