***This is an enhanced version with a somewhat corrected exposure. The material really is the limiting factor here, but perceived brightness is more realistic in this version***
***Keep in mind, that between the not so great camera and the compression of the video, there are some losses. What you see here will give you an idea of how the system performs, but the brightness of the system and the de facto visibility of the road obviously is better if you see it with your own eyes***
2022 Nissan Qashqai Matrix LED in action.
The QQ features very slim headlights with 6 reflectors each. Four of them are for low beam, two of them are for the high beam Matrix function. The Matrix is created by an LED cluster in each reflector with 6 LEDs each, so 12 LEDs in total per side.
The system does a very good job at keeping the road illuminated. It's a rather "calm" and polite system by comparison, that doesn't make much fuzz about itself, and it seems Nissan spent a lot of time tuning this system so others do not get annoyed by it and the driver doesn't get dazzled by a too busy system (like you can find on some other cars).
The sensitivity is better than with most systems, I found that there are almost no compaints by other drivers (one of them blinked at me as you can see in the video, but I feel this was a pretty nervous dude, the system had almost no time to react, so I feel he was on the trigger already before he even saw my headlights). The system does an awesome job of just dimming portions of the beam to make road signs a little less bright etc.. There also seems to be some kind of hight adjustment, since the low beam shoots a lot farther when on the freeway (not in the video), ranging close to 200 meters. This was very convenient.
I found driving with this system very enjoyable and it is a HUGE leap over Nissan previous offerings.
Also, lighting while cornering is suprisingly good with this car, despite it not having any moving beam or cornering lights. The low beam creates a very broad illuminated area in front of the car and there also is some spill to the side of the car, so that even in pitch black night you can see what's there. So that cornering lights are not really needed. I wouldn't mind them, but it's totally ok like it is.
