Today on our 2014 Nissan Frontier, we're going to be testing fitting the swagman upright. This is a frame clamp style roof-mounted bike rack. Part number is s64720. We've already got our Thule Rapid Traverse roof rack system installed onto the Nissan, so we'll begin our test fit by placing the rack right up onto the cross bar. At the front we're going to bring one of our metal u bolts around the underside of our bar. We'll fit it p through the head of our rack.
We'll then take our wing nuts, and well thread them on there. Loosely for now is fine, or just hand tight is fine just to hold that u bolt up into position. We'll take our second one, and do it on the other side here at the front. Now that we've got it positioned where we want it, we'll go ahead and tighten all four of our wing nuts down. That's going to secure those u bolts around the underside of our load bar, and secure the front of our rack. As you can see, we've got that nice and secure, so we'll move to the rear. Now here at the rear it's a little different set up.
This time our u bolts are going to go down through the rack. Or our u bolt rather. Singularly. Here we go down through the rack. We want to be sure that we've got a threaded portion coming out in front, and behind.
We then have a metal plate that's going to go on. We're going to put the flat side up. Because you can see we got a flat side. Then the contour side. Flat side goes up.
I found it easiest to, once we've got that started, to hold down on the u bolt with your middle finger ring finger index finger whatever you can reach it with and then hold up on the bracket with your thumb. That's going to keep it in the spot long enough for us to get our wing nuts threaded on there. One on the front. One on the rear. Then we'll tighten both of those down as well. All right. With our rack secure to the vehicle, we're going to load up the bike. First step's going to be undoing our rear-wheel strap. Then our front-wheel strap. Then we're going to loosen the large black knob that's located on our frame clamp arm. We want this to be. Not quite that open. We want it to be open enough to where it'll except the width of the frame thats on our bike. We'll now grab our bike. We're going to place it right up on the rack. I'm going to open the rear door here just in case I need to step up on it. Position our bike there. Then we're going to lift up on the clamp arm until it engages our frame. Now, it does bring our knob up here quite a ways. I'm just going to stand in the door sill here. We're going to tighten that clamp right down around our frame. Once we have that nice and tight, that's going to hold our bike in position. Then we'll just move to each wheel, and secure these with the straps. That one. Now we'll move here to the front. We'll strap it in here as well. Just like that, we've got our bike all loaded up onto our 2014 Nissan Frontier. We're now going to take the swagman upright, part number s64720 through our test course so you can see what it looks like in action. Here and our test course we'll start by going through the slalom. This is going to show us the side to side action. This simulates turning corners or evasively maneuvering. Once we get to the alternating speed bumps we'll see the twisting action. This will simulate hitting a curve, or pothole, or driving over uneven pavement. Once we get to the full speed bumps, we'll see the up and down action. This will be just like driving in and out of a parking lot, parking garage, or driveway. .
