After an early morning ride from Dublin to the Airport to pick up our hire car, we headed to the Wicklow Mountains.
Our first stop was at the Ballinastoe Woods Walk, and this stop did not go to plan. Even though I had researched and found the most direct route to the famous photo spot...I forgot to use them and ended up leaving disappointed but excited for the rest of our time in this beautiful area.
Our second stop was totally unplanned and would become a holiday highlight. We pulled into a quaint cafe in the hopes of getting coffee and something to eat, and yay, we found an Aussie-taught barista, If you are in the area, support the Turquoise Cafe.
They are lovely, and the food was really good as well.
One of the reasons we included the Wicklow Mountains was because of this next stop, as we paid €4 to park our car and head to the Glendalough Monastic Settlement. Founded by St. Kevin in the 6th century, and most of the buildings we visit today date from the 10th through 12th centuries. This is a fascinating place to visit, and I would recommend a stop.
We started our trip in the trees, and now we are ending our visit looking at the visits from higher up. We stopped at the Wicklow Mountains Viewing Platform. This may not be the highest vantage point, but what a great place to see the lay of the land. I know we did not see all we could of this amazing area in Ireland, but what we saw was amazing, and I would say make time, even if it is a few hours.
Travel Brilliantly,
Kerryn
